If you have a special someone in your life, or want to do something sweet for a friend, here is one of my favorite cookie recipes that I used to make with my Aunt Connie when I was growing up.
It's a perfect and affordable Valentine's day gift. Wrap it with pink or red saran wrap and put a red bow on top! Voila!
VALENTINE SUGAR COOKIES
1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
1 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Mix sugar and butter. Add egg and flavorings and mix thoroughly. Measure flour by sifting. Stir dry ingredients together and blend in with sugar mixture.
After mixed, form into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap, and then refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Divide dough in half and roll 3/16" thick on lightly floured surface. Cut with heart shaped cookie cutter and then bake for 7 to 8 minutes or until golden.
Once they're done baking, let them cool before frosting them. I included a pink frosting recipe below!
Frosting:
1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tablespoon milk
A few drops of red food coloring, will make the frosting a pretty pink if you don't use too much, or you can buy ready made frosting and add your food coloring to that!
If you guys decide to give my recipe a shot, which I think you should ;) let me know how it goes!!!
