It means a lot to me because I grew up in a home where my mother couldn't pass up a hurt or abandoned animal. We were always nursing some furry creature back to health. On our mission to find a happy home for a kitten we found abandoned and badly injured in the desert, we inspired my Aunt Connie's intense passion for feral cats! Haha! That may sound silly but twelve years later my aunt still has her kitty named Dakota. She also has about twenty other stray kitties all over town she provides food and water for.
I've always admired my mother's compassion for stray animals, yet I'm very allergic to cats (there is actually a funny deleted scene on The Hills Season Three DVD where my younger sister Casey and I shave Lauren's cat to try and help my allergies!).
I was inspired by my aunt's own selfless ambition and I wanted to do something to help! My aunt turned me onto an amazing organization called Clinico. It's based in Los Angeles, but God knows we need these all over the world.
My aunt actually used to set up opossum traps to catch feral cats around her office and bring them into the vet. She'd pay out of her own pocket (around $250 per kitty!) to have them spayed/neutered because she felt so terrible about their living conditions. Then came the Clinico organization and she was excited to be able to continue her efforts in helping put a stop to this tragedy without going broke! It's an awesome way to greatly reduce the number of unwanted cats and dogs, preventing shelter overpopulation and the euthanization of helpless animals!
Just to give an example, on their website they state, "In 2005, Los Angeles animal shelters took in 203,629 dogs and cats. Of that number, 98,241 were euthanized."
Clinico not only provides a high quality clinic to spay/neuter, but if you guys have pets they also offer flea medication, rabies shots (only $8) and all kinds of incredibly low cost services. I know I can't go to an animal shelter without wanting to take home every cute dog/cat I see and save them, so this is a way I feel we can all help out. Even if you can't donate, you can take care of your own furry best friend for a lot less money than your regular vet!
You can take the money you save and get a male cat neutered. With the price of gas these days if you rode a bike whenever possible (while getting some good exercise) you would be preventing thousands of homeless cats and dogs!
Please check out their website and help spread the word. If you don't think that this issue effects you, think again. You will find tons of convincing facts on Clinico.org!

Thats awesome that you are trying to help animals. BUT you wrote about riding your bike instead of paying for the gas, well are you going to be doing that? I hope so.
Love you.
Hey Audrina
That's really cool that you care about such a good cause, I know that it's something really important, thanks for getting the word out!
Plus, totally Team Brunette. Lo IS super bitchy! Are you going to get your own spin-off? Cos the only reason I watch the hills is for you!
What a great blog, I have already went to Clinico.org, what a great site, thank you for sharing such an important issue with us. You are my favorite on The Hills, keep up the good work.
aunt connie told me about what she's been doing for feral cats a few months ago...she's so awesome. i love that you blogged about this. i love cats dearly and i miss my cats that live back in so dak with my dad. trevor is allergic to cats too so we can't have any living with us but there's some neighbor cats that come over and visit me that i just love to pieces. :) xoxox ~b
It's great that you're bringing attention to this cause, but isn't shaving a cat to help your allergies kind of defeating the point? That's animal abuse right there.
This is so great! I love dogs and cats like crazy and I love The Hills lol so I'm so happy to hear that you and your family are helping out with homeless animals!!!!
Ok I have to add one more thing cause I just read the other comments.... Shaving a cat is NOT animal abuse! The type of hair a cat has (long or short) is to protect them but it will not kill nor hurt the cat to be shaved. Specially since the cat is an inside kitty
Did you see what thesuperficial wrote about you?
"Just smile, wear a bikini then wait for your fleeting relevancy to be replaced by the next 21-year-old with implants who's banging an MTV producer."
I bet he feels like a jackass now.
its really cool that people like you and your aunt helps animals, they need people like that!!!
i love cats, i have one, hes so cute!!!
its a great cause, and i hope a lot of people will help you!!!
wow it looks like you really did your research on this post-
and thank you so much for bringing this issue into the open! i am an animal lover :)
also i think maybe you should do a post to clear up some stuff going on between you & LC on your myspace pages...i hope theres not too much drama going on, or backstabbing, which hurts the most. i hope you weren't a victim,
and everythings fine.
xoxo

So your comments are disabled on your most recent post about lauren and justin boby..so i'm writing on here..
honestly! I really think you should listen to Lauren on this one..She was your best friend for over 3 years..and yes she has had her share of drama..I dont always think she has been the victim because she does seem negative and judgemental at times..but one thing you can tell is that girl doesn't BS with people. She is very straightforward and has morals and I seriously doubt she would ever do something that low to you! Especially, with all the crap people have pulled on her over the years. That is what you should stop and think about. I bet this was something Spencer fabricated and told Perez..and if Justin Bobby fessed up to it then maybe he's just going along in order to create drama and fame for himself since he doesnt like Lauren.
You have to take all of that into consideration..it's sort of shocking that you would even believe this rumor! Don't believe a guy who never fully committed to you because he's shady and a womanizer over your friend..come on now!
This is such a great idea! I've had at least 7 stray cats come find a home at my house and if I haven't been able to make them indoor cats, I've left food, water, and blankets in my cellar for them. Causes like this definitely don't get enough support. The one in my area is called Habitat For Cats and they do amazing stuff for feral cats in the community. I adopted my kitty Sawyer from them. Thank you for bringing attention to this, and thank your mom and aunt for being great animal lovers!
BTW: My fiance's allergic to cats, and we had to the same thing you did to Ashes to my fluffy Persian cat, Milo. I can TOTALLY sympathize! :)
Åhhh! I've been working in a cat-shelter, those poor things, some are really messed up. One was thrown out of a car! But there are human souls out there who bring those cats in for help. I am doin everything I can here, overseas!
heyy.
i was just woundering what kind of foundation do you use.?
There are many different allergy medicines to explore, shaving a cat for your allergies is selfish. Any way getting involved with rescuing animals is such a great cause :) I hope you keep up with it and keep encouraging ppl to do the same :)
Hey Audrina,
I think that you should post how you do your amazing hair<3

Thanks for speaking up for such a wonderful cause, Audrina. It sounds like a great organization that does important work. Spaying/neutering is a great way to ensure that that every pet is wanted and it prevents needless suffering and euthanasia.
I just wanted to say that you are my hero!
You are so kind and beautiful, and you are totally not a typical hollywood girl, i really respect you for having your own sense of style, and not being afraid to be yourself!
Allison :)
Hi Audrina,
Reading this just melted my heart.
You are a huge sweetheart and an inspiration to us all...I think you're too good for LA but you belong there. You have a real magic about you.
Keep your head up high and do your own thing, its looks good on you. You're a star ;)
I think its great your helping animals.. i love animals soo much. I was recently in a car accident, was hit by a drunk driver, and the guy ran off but the police dogs sniffed him out and found him. Ever since then I've had a new respect for dogs, and would love to help them any way i can.
Thanks so much for spreading the word of the animal overpopulation. As someone much involved in animal rescue, I can say how much your efforts are appreciated. You have the power to influence so many people, and I really wish that more celebrities would try to get the message across.
I adopted a little stray dog from a shelter in 2006 and it changed my entire life. You can read all about that on my blog.
Anyways, sorry to comment late, but had to say that you're awesome for this, as this is a cause that is very close to my heart.

Audrina:
It is so incredible that this is your cause. This is something that is also very near and dear to my heart.
Another people can help is by finding other animal shelters in their area that do not euthanize animals. In my area we have humane societies and certain shelters do not euthanize. We can help by donating money, food, litter, and bedding.
Audrina, thank you for raising awareness on this issue.
xox,
Hope
As a promoter of animal welfare in Canada, and as a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation volunteer- I congratulate you on enlighting your peers on such a profound cause!
Keep up the good work!
Hey Audrina,
What you did really took to me and inspired me so I went to my local SPCA and adopted a rescued cat. His name is Sly (short for Salvester) and if I had gotten a girl I would have named her Audrina but they didnt have any girls at that time. You are my role model
